Hurstville Lat 33°58'5.2"S, Long 151°6'14.69"E, he land of the Hurstville region was granted by the government of the new colony of New South Wales to two men; Captain John Townson and his brother Robert Townson in 1808. Captain John Townson was granted 1950 acres, they were not happy with the land as it was not suitable for farming sheep for wool.

Now it has become the central business district for the southern suburbs with commercial and large residential buildings dominating the skyline. There is a mixture of residential homes, low, medium and high density buildings in the area.

There is a large shopping precinct and shopping centre in the middle of the city.

The population is a multi cultural mix with a lot Chinese migrants choosing to make Hurstville their home in the last two decades.

Forest Rd being the main thoroughfare has plenty of restaurants with Chinese cuisine being the main food on offer in the street.
